  When you read what else are you doing?

  ok usually i'll be drinking iced tea when i read... sometime coffee if i read in the am.

  i've tried reading while mr.panda is watching tv but that doesn't always work.

  so what do you do while you read?

  currently i find it very difficult to discuss the jw organization with my wife.

  once i made my position known to her, her super "apostate senses" kicked in and there became a brick wall.

  i know why, heck 2 years ago i would have built the same wall myself, and then put barbed wire around the top.

  Many years ago I read a book on the psychology of cults. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the book or the author, but it stated that cult members have 2 personalities: 1.) the cult personality, and 2.) their real personality.
  
  I notice w/my mother who is still in the cult, when she's in her real personality she will talk about things she normally wouldnt -- and she's happier too (go figure, huh? LOL). Usually this happens when my father is sick and she's been unable to attend meetings for a while.
  
  If you can catch your wife in her normal personality maybe you can ask her some questions or suggest things to her that you normally wouldnt be able to.
  
  Also -- and I have no idea what you do for a living or your lifestyle -- but JW's are tuaught that ex-JW's fail more because Jeerkhovah has abandoned them. If you're in a business where you can advance in your career or make more money, in short -- VISIBLY succeed more -- it may help dispell the judgemental attitutude your wife has been programmed to use. Anything that puts you in a better light will dispel the myths the WT throw out about ex-JW's. One time my father told me I failed more after I left the cult because Jerkhovah was angry with me (I'm in sales). After that conversation I doubled up on my sales activities and proved him wrong. Now he just scratches his head becasue he can't figure out how I do it minus "god's" direction.
  
  Hope these ideas help. I'm half asleep so forgive the typos, please.

And then I'll hand you an imaginary beer and while I drink the real thing you can tell me about Moby Dick and the one that got away. Afterard we can build a fire and sing hippy songs if you like?   It's that sexual inequality thing. I, as a male, can spell speech incorrectly. It says so in the bible. Somewhere. Right next to the rule making my wife walk behind me two steps and to the left. LOL

  I dont' think he's looking for the truth. Sounds more like he's trying his best to be a Muslim apologetic and prove the Christians wrong so they'll run to Allah. Which of course would mean all you women on this post would be required to wear berkahs (spelling?)subjected to female circumsision, and treated like an inferior class person. I could be wrong, but I'd almost bet you money on his true intentions...

  Politically Correct speach offends me. I don't need the thought police to tell me what I should be saying when I say it. I have a higher I.Q. than the typical knee jerk left-winger and I don't give a damn about their delusional feel good ideas. Liberal (Marxist) politics and long hair dope smoking liberals offend me as well. Reverse racism offends me, as well as the lack of real equality between the races bothers me.
  
  Other than that, not much.

  when i announced, at the c.o's meeting with the elders, that i was quiting and giving up, the brother who gave the prayer.

  nearly burst into tears.. a couple months later, him and his wife pass us in the hall and hall and sit down in front of us: not a single glance or hello.

  You're absolutely right! The term "family member" doesn't stand up under scrutiny when it's applied to the JW's.
  
  "Today you're my son/daughter/brother/sister/grandchild, but I'm not certain you will be tomorrow."
  
  It's an insanity that's learned from the countless hours of "bible" studying they engage in. Even when you bring it to their attention they don't see their mental illness for what it is.
  
  May the gods curse and torment them forever and ever, amen.
